You (student) will consider how the media influences the way we see ourselves.

It will also examine how issues of ‘body image’ in the media affect people’s health.

Year 11 = PSHE booklet topics

This will inform and assist with upcoming COLLEGE applications as well as employment opportunities once students reach the age of 16.

Road Safety Awareness play (An outside performance company)

  • Year 9 = 13th September 2017
  • Year 7 = 5th October 2017

Essex County Fire Service Assembly

  • In October the Fire Service will deliver three separate Year 7, 8 and 9 assemblies on firework safety & anti-social behaviour.
  • Year 11 will have a presentation assembly examining the topic Young Drivers. (13th December 2017)

November – January schedule

  • Civil liberties (SMSC)

Year 10 = PSHE booklet topics

  • Racism, prejudice and discrimination (An extension based learning activity will be based around the concept of a bias bar. A thought provoking activity established by the Nobel Peace Center, Oslo, Norway) SMSC
  • You as a citizen

Year 11 = PSHE booklet topics

  • Managing your money (how to budget)
  • Bank accounts and savings
  • Pay day loan companies, good or bad?

Each Year 11 student is given a Santander Budgeting guide booklet.

 

January – February

All years will:

  • Review and debate the news
  • LGBT awareness month in 2018 is OUTing the Past.

 

February = Internet Safety and Radicalisation Awareness Week (6th February 2018)

All form tutors are provided with a teaching resources containing web links to video clips and question points for discussion. The students have a booklet to complete with a safer internet use pledge at the end.

February – March schedule

Year 7 = PSHE booklet topics

  • The World’s Largest Lesson. The Global Goals for Sustainable Development. The lesson is focussed on enabling learners to feel empowered to take small actions towards achievement of the Goals. globalgoals.org/worldslargestlesson

It will also link into to World Happiness Day 20th March 2018.

February / March 2018

Essex Fire Service will be delivering assemblies on the following topics to the following year groups.

  • Year 7 = Arson and Hoax calls
  • Year 8 = Home fire safety
  • Year 9 = Element

 

 

SUMMER TERM

April / May

All years will explore democracy and voting, a core British Value. The students will examining the issues that appear during local elections. A mock election will be held in school on 3rd May 2018.

May = PSHE exercise and health

A different booklet survey for each year group

Year 7 = what is being healthy?

Year 8 = what is good health?

Year 9 = how has my view of health changed?

Year 10 = Views of visiting the doctor

Healthy Schools will be the core theme for the different years to explore, from topics ranging from nutrition and risks of childhood obesity to exercise mental wellbeing.

 

May = PSHE

Year 8 = What is my profile and decisions about healthy eating?

Year 9 = Am I a streetwise shopper and an ethical shopper?

Year 10 exam preparation time.

 

June 2017

Fire Education Officer in to conduct an assembly for Yr 9 and 10.

June PSHE = Drugs, Alcohol and tobacco awareness

Each year group will have a question booklet that should encourage discussion. Teachers have an answer booklet that should enable key points to be covered.

 

July 2017

Year 7 – 10 To develop awareness of British values, justice and democracy.

 

 

 

OUTSIDE speakers

Throughout the academic year the school organises talks from outside agencies that can deliver more specialised PSHE education, for example the Fire Service, School Police Liaison Officer.
