Day 1—Touch down and Setting into NY time.
On a cold October morning, 30 year 11 Business studies students left the school at 3am on an adventure of their lives, heading to New York City. The department had been planning this adventure for two years and finally the day had arrived. Students arrived at Heathrow with bags packed for a 8.30am flight. 5607km later, we arrived safe and sound in JFK airport and met with our guide Gordon. Following a quick pit stop in Subway, we were ready for our first glimpse of that famous NYC skyline. Shortly after 1pm we arrived in mid town Manhattan at the luxury (??) Hotel Penn, our home for the next five days.
Students took a quick NYC stroll to Times square to start their adventure properly. Students got the chance to see with their own eyes, what the most expensive advertising billboards in the world look like , coming in at a mere $4,000,000 a year rent. The company who own 1 Times Square, the famous area where the new years eve ball drop happens are said to make in the region of $25,000,000 rent a year just for its advertising billboard alone. We then returned to the hotel, where we checked in to our homes for the next week. We enjoyed fun with our room keys, were they really expecting us??, it was all part of the experience.
We all unpacked our teds and freshened up and then left the hotel to go and visit one of the tallest buildings in NYC—the Em-pire state build-ing. We were extremely luck-ing to get the opportunity to visit the building at night, to al-low us the experience of NYC skyline at night. Arriving at the Empire state building after 8pm , we got our tickets and head-ed for the queue to take us to the 86th floor observatory. Some bright man challenged us to forfeit the elevator and climb the last 12 floors by stairwell. It was worth the chal-lenge as the views we saw from the top will be remembered for ever. We then returned to our beds to sleep and we did sleep.
