Day 3—Lady Liberty and Ellis island
Following breakfast, we traveled once more on the subway to downtown Manhattan, to board our ferry to Ellis island. Ellis island was the first port of call for the immigration of 12 million people into the USA from 1892 to its closure in 1954. Students had the opportunity to wander around the museum area and see the conditions that met immigrants who traveled for days to touch America’s freedom. The island was one of the locations for the new spider man 2 movie. The first person to pass through the island was a 17 year old girl from Ireland called Annie Moore.
Students completed their day with retailing at Wood-bury common.
