Attendance and punctuality are given high priority at De La Salle School and Language College. Our attendance rates are consistently above the national average.
Reducing absence and poor punctuality are considered vital factors in achieving academic success. We have a Student Service Manager who works closely with parents, Heads of School, Heads of Year and Year Group tutors to continually monitor the situation in order to maximise attendance and to ensure that every student is given the opportunity to have access to the full time education to which they are entitled.
Please note that leave of absence during term time will only be granted in exceptional circumstances by the Headteacher. Request for leave of absence must be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the absence. Unauthorised absences may result in a penalty notice.
If you have any concerns or questions please contact Mrs J Simmons at email@example.com
Please be aware: the current law does not give any entitlement to parents to take their child out of school during term time. The Education (Pupil Registration)(England)(Amendment) Regulations 2013 prohibits Headteachers granting leave of absence to a pupil except where an application has been made in advance and the Headteacher considers that there are exceptional circumstances relating to the application.
If parent/carers take their child(ren) out of school for a holiday during term time, the absences will not be authorised and the Education Welfare Service may issue a penalty notice to each parent of £60 for each child to be paid within 21 days. If the penalty is not paid within the time scale the penalty will increase to £120. If the higher penalty is not paid within 28 days, the Education Welfare Service will then institute legal proceedings against you in the magistrate’s court under Section 444 of the Education Act 1996 for failing to ensure you child attends school regularly.
