Charities and Fundraising

Charitable fundraising at De La Salle plays an important role in bringing our Lasallian values to life. Through a wide range of events and activities, students, staff, and families come together to support those in need locally and globally. These efforts help build a strong sense of community, encourage social awareness, and give students’ meaningful opportunities to develop leadership, compassion, and responsibility. Fundraising is not just about giving—it’s about living out our shared commitment to service and making a positive difference in the world.  

Over the past year we have raised money for:

CAFOD Big Lent Walk

The start of Lent was marked with every student in the school completing a 2km walk around the school grounds. We had a talk from CAFOD to both lower and upper school to start then the students were encouraged to raise money for this amazing charity. A big well done to all our students and staff who completed this walk and to Doug and the PE department for making this a success. We were extremely lucky with the weather, making this so enjoyable and successful.

We raised: £734.50.

                          

CAFOD Family Fast

In solidarity with communities across the world, our school marked CAFOD Harvest Fast Day. Students and staff participated in our Soup Kitchen initiative, sharing a simple meal and raising funds for those in need. This act of solidarity reminded us of our duty to live simply and support our global family.

Brentwood Catholic Children’s Society

Brentwood Catholic Youth Service

The Brentwood Catholic Youth Service (BCYS) is the youth ministry of the Diocese of Brentwood, serving young people across Essex and East London. Its aim is to help young people grow in faith, friendship and service, and to encounter Jesus Christ in a way that connects with their everyday lives.

What does BCYS do?

BCYS provides a wide range of opportunities for young people, including:

Youth Masses – regular gatherings at Brentwood Cathedral.

Retreats and days of reflection – particularly through Walsingham House at Abbotswick.

Lourdes pilgrimage – one of its major annual events, where young people take part in the diocesan pilgrimage and serve alongside other pilgrims.

Youth Gather – a mixture of faith, friendship, activities, prayer and formation.

Flame – opportunities for young people from schools and parishes to attend the large Catholic youth gathering at Wembley.

World Youth Day – BCYS regularly takes groups of young people to international Catholic youth gatherings.

Catechist and chaplaincy formation – including training and resources for those working with young people.

Young leadership – encouraging young people to become leaders and active participants in the life of the Church.

Walsingham House at Abbotswick

A particularly important part of the BCYS ministry is Walsingham House at Abbotswick, near Brentwood. It is a retreat centre where young people can take part in retreats, prayer, formation and activities. The team also works with schools and parishes around the Diocese.

 

                                           

St Luke’s Hospice

St. Luke’s Hospice is a charity providing compassionate palliative and end of life care to people whose illnesses are no longer curable. They deliver care to ensure dignity and empower people to make the choices they want, from the moment they are diagnosed.

In December we held a ‘Santa Run’ and for this charity we raised £320.

Lasallian Project to help build a new school in Kenya

In the July of 2025 J Tyler and P Futcher embarked on a trip to help St Luke’s school in Abossi Kenya. The focus of the trip was to help build the school’s new classroom and ICT room. Fundraising events had been held before hand in order to help the school with resources. The money raised through a quiz night and non-uniform cultural dress day in school enabled St Luke’s to purchase four laptops, a projector and textbooks.

Fr Ambrose, school staff and students made us welcome very quickly. It was wonderful to be able to become part of the community for a short while and attend the Masses held in the church attached to the school. In addition to learning new building skills we also had the opportunity to plan and teach a lesson, Mr Futcher taught Geography whilst Miss Tyler taught Maths.

The whole experience was truly immersive and each day brought new challenges from balancing on odd shaped scaffold poles to nail in the roof sheets to plastering walls. The builders took two novices and allowed us to enjoy and become part of their team. In the few weeks we were there we have established long term connections and friendships.

Since returning the academic year of 2025-2026 has continued to see funds raised through staff bingo and quiz nights, as well as the cultural dress non-uniform day in school. The school community has embraced the project and supported funds to help contribute to two new toilet blocks for staff and students at the school. 2026-2027 will now see more fundraising to help build new shower blocks for the students boarding.
