At De La Salle School Basildon, Catholic life is at the heart of everything we do. As a Lasallian community, we are inspired by the vision of St John Baptist de La Salle and guided by the five core principles that shape our mission and daily life: Faith in the Presence of God, Respect for All Persons, Inclusive Community, Quality Education, and Concern for the Poor and Social Justice. These principles are not simply words — they are lived out in our relationships, our learning, our worship and our service. As our founder reminds us, “Your work is your ministry.” In that spirit, we believe every day in school is an opportunity to grow in faith, to serve others, and to become the person God calls us to be.
Our chaplaincy supports and strengthens this Catholic identity, ensuring that faith is visible, meaningful and welcoming across the school. Through prayer, liturgy, retreats, reflection and opportunities to serve others, chaplaincy helps students and staff to recognise God’s presence in everyday life and to grow spiritually as part of a caring community. In a Lasallian school, faith is not an “extra” — it is woven into the rhythm of school life, shaping the culture of the school and the way we treat one another.
The School Chaplain plays a vital role in bringing this mission to life. They work closely with students, staff, families, the Diocese and local parish communities to create rich and engaging opportunities for worship and spiritual formation. The Chaplain is also a trusted presence within the school, offering pastoral support, guidance and a listening ear. In doing so, chaplaincy helps ensure that our Lasallian principles are lived with authenticity — encouraging all members of our community to grow in faith, to serve generously, and to become people who make a difference in the world.
