Welcome to our Business Department
Business Studies is a dynamic subject that is influenced by developments in the United Kingdom and other parts of the world. These include changes in the law, economy, politics, social attitudes and technology.
The subject is delivered in ICT suites, which allow students to easily access the internet as a research tool. Lessons are constantly updated in response to changes in the economic and political environments.
Key Stage 4 - GCSE Business

Assessment: Each of the Themes is assessed separately. Therefore, the course has 2 examinations that consist of multiple choice, short answer and essay style questions.
Key Stage 4 – L1/2 Technical Award in Business and Enterprise
Examination board: NCFE
This is a vocationally-related qualification that takes an engaging, practical and inspiring approach to learning and assessment. The NCFE L1/2 Technical Award in Business and Enterprise provides students with a broad foundation of knowledge required for further study in business, including the different types of business, resource planning and the role of enterprise in business.
All learners will study two units as follows:
- Unit 1: Introduction to Business and Enterprise
- Unit 2: Understand Resources for Business and Enterprise Planning
The first topic explores entrepreneurship, business organisation and the importance of stakeholders. In the second topic, students will develop their skills and knowledge of the marketing mix, market research, market types and orientation types.
The third topic will see students developing their knowledge of operations management.
In the fourth topic, students will explore the internal influences on business.
The fifth and final topic helps students to understand external influences on business.
In topic 1, students will understand research, resource planning and growth for business enterprise.
The second topic emphasises an understanding of human resource requirements for a business start-up.
In the third topic, students explore sources of enterprise funding and business finance.
The fourth topic seeks to build students’ skills in business and enterprise planning.
Assessment: Each of the Themes is assessed separately. Unit 1 has one examination consisting of multiple choice, short answer and essay style questions. Unit 2 is assessed through coursework.
