Welcome to DLS Radio Podcast, the official termly podcast of De La Salle School. The presentations aim to educate listeners on events impacting the school community and its stakeholders.

Mission and whole-school impact

DLS Radio Podcast, with its first presentation in March 2022, impacts the whole school as it brings the listeners news and sporting events happening in and around the school community, a weather report and forecasts for the Basildon area for a specific period, interviews, special features, discussion programmes and shout-outs to the school community. The discussion programmes will address topical issues such as anti-bullying, morals, attitudes and values, self-regulation, self-awareness, emotional intelligence, personal development, financial awareness and money management, e-safety, cyberbullying and other SMSC, RSE and PSHE curriculum topics.

Strategic Aim

The podcasts seek to inform, educate and entertain our school community. They also provide a platform for the students to hone their communication skills and build their confidence as news and special features writers, editors, presenters, producers and moderators of topical interactive community discourse.

Target audience

The DLS Radio podcasts target present, past and future students, parents and carers, teachers, support staff, the Governors, the local community, service providers and other stakeholders. By tuning in, the listeners will receive up-to-date information related to the school.  They will better understand how De La Salle provides a balanced curriculum that meets its students’ academic, social, emotional and other needs.

Programmes

The DLS Radio output is growing as the students propose more programme ideas.

The current programmes include:

News, sport and weather: an update on events in which the school has participated or developments that impact the institution. Past news presenters and reporters include: Oliver B, Elise S, Rebecca M, Rihanna M, Kingsley S, Molly R, Cherrelle O, Charlie K and Lily N.

Shout-outs: a Vox-pop in which the students send greetings to their friends or favourite teacher by saying what they admire most about the person.  This is a popular feature, as the students enjoy hearing the positive messages and jovial tones that deliver the greetings.

Interview of the Day: an extended discussion with someone possessing in-depth knowledge/information or skill that can inform the listeners and enrich our students’ academic experiences. Past guests include: professionals from the Department of Work and Pensions, Holocaust survivor, Susie Barnett, former DLS student Lube N, Molly R, a current DLS student who sang and played the piano at the school’s 2023 Awards Evening and Jorja C, who recently attended an apprentice workshop.
